Way before Hughie Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr for copying "I Want a New Drug" to write the Ghostbusters theme, the Stampeders wrote the driving beat for "Playin' in the Band". We Canucks are generous folks.

Seen them in 1978 in Amherst NS ... 7 Piece without Rich Dodson. Also had the song Bring the House Down with the new lineup. Despite interviews I have seen with Dodson whos says they never did breakup ... I spoke with Ronnie King about some Beatle stuff but the conversation was over when I asked about Dodson ... ugh

If the Guess Who were Canada's Beatles, then the Stampeders were Canada's Rolling Stones. The Stampeders had how many top 40 Canadian hits? Ten? If you count collaboration with Wolf Man Jack. They also had at least two top 20 hits in America.

Road trip in the back seat of the family 68 Monaco....Sweet Love Bandit on am radio, mixed with Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell, no FM, a different time....but I was just old enough to buy a 45 with my allowance...Sweet Love Bandit was good, but Playin in the Band was B side...one of the most unique amazing tunes ever...sure, bands copied Lighthouse/Chicago,...but this was their own sound...Sounds fresh today, if u ask me..

Just saw them play this live last week in North Bay. When Ronnie sang the line, "now I'm a rock and roller" he ripped off a wicked rock lick and slipped right back into the groove like it was nothing. These guys are still great, and really funny and entertaining.

A cool sounding song if ever there was. Why is it there are very few bands now a days that can come up with simple but inspiring music such as this.

l pushed these guys out of a ditch, down some back road up north, they were loaded, in a big cadillac , dark blue, we all laughed it up, in the middle of winter, l was snowmobling when l saw they were stuck, richard and kim stayed in, while ronnie and l pushed the car out, heavy car man, then the honey oil came out, got friggin blasted, went home, woke up, l could not believe l helped the stampeders out last night, my dad said , who, you, he laughed, are you sure, l went back up the road, there was bottles and ciggs in the snow, and other goodies, heee, they left me a gift, 1973, muskoka ont.

I think Ed Whelan got 'Stampede Wrestling' "in the meantime and inbetweentime" from this song.
